Lab Diamonds vs Natural Diamonds

What Are Lab Created Diamonds?

Diamonds created in labs have the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds.  The two processes used to create diamonds are HPHT or CVD.  We would be happy to talk to you about how diamonds are grown. 

While lab grown diamonds have the same properties as natural diamonds they have features that make them identifiable.  

How are Lab Created Diamonds Different From Natural Diamonds?

One major difference between the two is that natural diamonds have increased in value over time.  Unfortunately, lab grown diamonds decrease in value.

Another intriguing disparity is that natural diamonds have been found that weigh hundreds of carats.  Lab created diamonds are only available up to about 20 carats.

Both, natural and lab created diamonds are graded for color, clarity, and cut.  They are also weighed.

The birthmarks inside the diamond differ between lab-created and natural diamonds.  Natural diamonds often have feathers (small cracks), crystals (including other minerals), clouds, or pinpoints.  Lab created diamonds can sometimes have tiny metallic inclusions caused by the manufacturing process.
