Diamond identification is key to your peace of mind. We get asked the above question all the time. And the answer is simple – we show you your diamond through a microscope and plot (document) the birthmarks (inclusions) in your diamond. Only the highest clarity diamonds – VVS2 and higher are difficult to plot because the birthmarks are so small. The vast majority of diamonds have birthmarks that are easy to see through a microscope. The photo above shows a plot. Once you have seen your diamond through a microscope and shown the birthmarks in your diamond it is easy to identify your diamond.
It is becoming more common for diamonds to have a serial number engraved on the girdle (edge). This microscopic number makes identifying your diamond a cinch.
