Who We Are

History of Plateau Jewelers

Plateau Jewelers circa 1996

How fitting that the beginning of Plateau Jewelers can be traced to love at first sight! Kelly Jensen instantly fell in love with beautiful diamonds and gemstones when he bought Sue her engagement ring. He knew that Sue, he and jewelry had a dazzling future together. As part of his degree in business administration, his subjects were often related to the jewelry industry. One project included a jewelry store offering Kelly a job!

Fast forward a couple of years and Kelly met Nick Carter – an incredibly gifted jeweler. Within six months, the pair decided that the Issaquah area needed a professional jewelry store. Kelly and Nick opened Plateau Jewelers in August 1996. Now, Plateau Jewelers is an integral part of the community.

A Graduate Gemologist from GIA, Kelly’s passion is diamonds and gemstones. His love of jewelry and his manufacturing experience are the winning combination for Plateau Jewelers’ success. He loves the cooperative design process where he combines customer ideas with his own. Kelly loves designing jewelry using state-of-the-art Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. CAD software enables Kelly to show pictures of the item long before it is in metal – allowing our clients to see what we are up to. Once the design is approved we “print” the wax model using a 3D printer. Finally, we cast the item in the metal of choice and Bruce Henderson does the hard part of polishing the metal and stone setting. Kelly describes Bruce as “one of the best jewelers in the region.”

Plateau Jewelers is often referred to as the area’s Crown Jewel. “Today, we’re a destination jewelry store – a favorite among those with a keen eye for great jewelry,” said Kelly. “In addition to our own designs, we carry designer collections from Hearts On Fire, Lika Behar, and Rembrandt Charms, to name a few. We also offer repair, restoration and appraisal services. But our passion remains custom jewelry, and we get an adrenaline rush whenever a customer brings us a challenge.” (You can view our Custom Jewelry Gallery by clicking here).

Kelly and Sue love every minute of being part of the Sammamish community. Stop in, look around and stay for a chat. They would love to meet you.
